Marlon Herrera was born in Cali, Colombia, the country that saw him grow and develop until the age of 16. At the age of 16 he was forced to make a radical change in his life, which involved a new beginning; at that age he moved to Orlando, Fl. Even though he completed his High School education in Colombia with honors, it seemed that another year in an American High School would not hurt. At the age of 17, Marlon graduated from Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Fl, receiving a lot of recognition from those who thought that a student who could write and read the language, but barely spoke it would reach graduation. As everyone knows starting from zero is hard, for Marlon it was not any different since he decided to work and help his family, instead of attending college. During this period of time, he starts to fill the employment history of his resume with small jobs to prestigious companies such as JP Morgan Chase, and MasterCard. The last companies offered an environment that was flexible, and encouraged him to attend college; the tuition help provided from these companies made the decision very clear. In 2005 a lot events took place, the most important one is when he is offered a job through MasterCard in which he would in charge of a project that would take place in the Caribbean; however, Marlon always had an interest in Engineering. In 2006, he transferred to FSU majoring in Chemical Engineering, a degree who he is still pursuing. For the future, he would like to take part of the staff of a petroleum company, since they offered jobs such as Process Engineers, Well and/or Reservoir Engineers, Composition Recognition, etc, which include a lot of the characteristics that he likes about the major; as well, he admires the new development of artificial lungs, and the idea of doing this is very appealing.
"As a transfer student I was looking for an organization that represented everything that I have always believed in, an organization that made me feel that I was really meant to be part of, somewhere where I could stand with pride. I am going to be honest, at first, I never thought that I would never be part of a Greek organization, but once I understood the ideals of Lambda Theta Phi, my mentality changed. One of the best qualities that my parents always tried to teach was how to be a gentleman "Un Caballlero," a person who
lends a hand, a person who treats women properly, a person who is there just to help, and Lambda Theta Phi was not different to this idea, in fact 'Chivalry Above Self' is one of the ideals that the fraternity follows. After making a good decision, Lambda Theta Phi has made a difference in my life since it has opened a door to a brotherhood, to a family that I can trust."
