Chapter History

“Through the depths of tragedy rose Las Siete Maravillas”

Every story has its beginning. Our chapter’s story began in the fall 2000 school year. This year 7 particular students enrolled into Fairleigh Dickinson which would come together and establish the 61st chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. To understand how this chapter came to be, you must understand what was happening on campus during this time. By Fall 2000, there were only 4 active fraternities on campus. All four of these fraternities were mainstream organizations. One of our future founders, Nestor, felt the need for something different on campus as many of the founders of different chapters do as well. So he began doing his research and came across a few Latin Fraternities. Being Latino himself, he felt that a Latin fraternity would be the ideal organization for himself. Every Latino fraternity he came across, he felt offered the same things, so he was very undecided on what to bring to the FDU campus.

During this entire time when he was researching which organization he wanted to join, one of the Brothers of Lambda Theta Phi had recently passed away. Being that the Brother was from his hometown and that the funeral was a few blocks from his house, he decided he would attend the funeral to pay his respects to the deceased brother. When he arrived at the funeral that day, he automatically knew that this was the organization for him. At the funeral, he witnessed dozens of brothers from all different parts of the country show up to pay their respects. The feeling of true brotherhood was felt that day by him and he knew that this was what he wanted to be a part of.

Nestor then showed up to school the following day and told his friends of what he has experienced and convinced them to become interests and go through the induction process. The interest group consisted of 7 strong men, who became known as Las Siete Maravillas.

“The New Breed”

Recruiting at FDU became a challenge for the founders. The Latino population at FDU was very low during this time and interest in the fraternity seemed impossible. It wasn’t until 2 years after the founding of the chapter that the founders held their first induction line. The three brothers that made up Beta Line were:

Beta Line

#1 Carlos T. Miranda

#2 Alexander Saldarriaga

#4 Fernando Bringas

“Through the Pain and the Flames the Legacy Remains”

To no surprise, recruiting again became an issue with the fraternity. Two of the three brothers from Beta Line had transferred and many of the founders were close to graduating. Without the presence of the brothers on campus, the chapter, unfortunately soon died out.

In the fall of 2006, one student, Gilbert, met Nestor and gained interest in the fraternity, however due to the lack of interests, he was never able to pledge. Then in the fall of 2008, another student, Augusto, met Nestor and again tried to bring the chapter back to FDU, but again failed due to the lack of interest. In the fall of 2009, Gilbert, now a senior, and Augie, now a sophomore, met and together decided they would give it one more shot at trying to bring back the fraternity to FDU. Both Gil and Augie met two more guys, Jorge and Alex and instantly got their interest. The four then together began reaching out to brothers and attending different events and eventually went through the induction process. These four guys would make the Gamma Line of Beta Nu Chapter.

“10 Years Later…The Rise of Delta Line”

Determined to keep the chapter alive and with the chapter’s 10 year anniversary coming close, the new brothers on campus began reaching out to students. Along the way they met two guys, Edward and David. With the help of the alumni brothers from the chapter, the chapter was able to hold a new induction line in the Spring. These two new brothers would make up our Delta Line:
