By
the year of 2000, there had already been eight chapters established in Florida. Florida Atlantic University
was the last major institution on the map that needed to be founded. After
several semesters of persistent scouting by the Florida Sector Induction
Officer, Edgar Ordoņez, the dream of founding a chapter became attainable
with the introduction of the fraternity to Kuo Hsiung “Steve”
Kim, Eddie Cifuentes, Daniel Rosales, and Elvis Teran.

The
population of FAU was restricted in their choice of Greek letter organizations
between mainstreams Greeks and traditional black Greeks.
Additionally, the diverse population of FAU found themselves not able to be
represented as they wished. The Latin population within FAU was
extremely disunited and lacked support from a Latin based
organizations. Taking the initiative, these individuals sought to
broaden these newly exposed ideals to a larger group of students. The
initial process was frustrating because it was hard to maintain a
consistent group of individuals that were dedicated. After months of
hard work and determination, only four individuals were left.
On April
1, 2001 Steve Kim, Eddie
Cifuentes, Daniel Rosales, and Elvis Teran achieved the founding of the Florida Atlantic University colony. Their corresponding line numbers were
1,2,3, and 7. These founding brothers commanded and received respect
from all organizations and thrived to represent not only the Hispanic
community but also the diverse student body. With the founding of the
colony came the formation of the first executive board headed by the first
president, Eddie Cifuentes. The executive board made the decision to
enter the National Pan-Hellenic Council because of the council’s warm
reception of the fraternity. In the fall of 2001, Lambda Theta Phi
became a household name by hosting numerous events such as cultural
appreciation days and educational workshops. Within the same
semester, the colony expanded by bringing in beta line, which consisted of
six new brothers under the guidance of Edgar Ordoņez. The
introduction of Beta Line culminated the requirements for chapter
status. On March 23, 2002 at the Florida banquet the colony of FAU was chartered chapter
status designated by the Greek Letters Beta Xi .
As years go by, the lambda
ideals will prevail and the tradition will continue expanding into new
territory, always keeping in mind that “en la union esta la
fuerza."
