History

The Historic Eta Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. was established on February 28th, 1987. Ten NJIT students sought a fraternity that upheld strong values and catered to the professional and personal development of its members. Thus, these young men embarked on a journey and brought Lambda Theta Phi to Newark, New Jersey.  Since that time, the chapter expanded onto the proximate Rutgers-Newark campus, where it has maintained a stronghold in collegiate politics and student involvement. Since the Spring semester of 1987, eighty four brothers have been birthed by the fire and brimstone of The Hell Pit.
Eta Chapter has had a strong influence in the fraternity as a whole. Whether it is from traditions established in our chapter and carried out by the fraternity as a whole to expansion into the rest of the nation, The Hell Pit has surely made its mark. Several of the brothers in our chapter have served on Sector and the National Board of our honorable fraternity.
Our brothers currently hold positions in several student organizations, including (but not limited to) the Black Organization of Students, Latinos United Networking in America, the Academic Foundations Center, IFSC, NJIT Senate, and other organizations. Our brothers have graduated and continued on to be successful, professional men that eat, sleep, and breathe Lambda – transcending values learned throughout their undergraduate years as students leaders into their adult lives as leaders of their communities.
